Kaduna Electric Reaffirms Support for Zamfara Electricity Reforms

 By Muhammad Abba, Zamfara Region

Kaduna Electric’s Regional Manager Zamfara, Mr. Muazu Aliyu has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the development of a sustainable electricity ecosystem in Zamfara State.

He made this known at the Stakeholders’ Workshop on the proposed Zamfara State Electricity Policy and Bill, held recently in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Mr. Aliyu commended the State Government for its proactive steps in formulating a clear Electricity Policy as Zamfara moves toward a more autonomous power market.

He assured participants that Kaduna Electric would continue to provide the technical and operational support necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the reforms.

Highlighting the company’s financial challenges, Mr. Aliyu revealed that Kaduna Electric injects over ₦1 billion worth of electricity into Zamfara monthly but recovers less than ₦400 million.

He warned that this significant revenue gap threatens the sustainability of power supply. Despite these challenges, he expressed pride in the company’s contributions to the growth of Zamfara’s agricultural and commercial sectors.

“Stable electricity is essential for boosting economic activity and attracting investment,” he said, calling for stronger collaboration among Government Institutions, Regulators, Communities, and Service Providers.

He urged customers to pay their electricity bills promptly and desist from energy theft and illegal connections, which undermine service delivery.

Mr. Aliyu reaffirmed Kaduna Electric’s readiness to work closely with the Zamfara State Government to ensure that the proposed policy and bill translated into improved service delivery, enhanced network safety, and long-term economic growth.

Also speaking at the workshop, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Electricity Agency, Mr. Muzammil Muhammad Idris emphasized the need for a robust electricity policy that addresses the state’s unique challenges. He noted that Zamfara possesses abundant solar and wind resources, presenting significant opportunities for clean and sustainable energy development.

He further stressed the importance of active stakeholder participation, especially from local communities, to ensure the success of the proposed electricity reforms.

Experts at the event observed that the new bill would establish a framework that promotes sustainability, efficiency, and increased investment in the electricity sector.

The Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transparency and continuous stakeholder engagement as the policy formulation process progresses.
