Kaduna Electric Holds Strategic Consultative Meeting with In-House Labour Unions

The Management of Kaduna Electric on Monday, 2 February 2026, held a joint consultative meeting with leaders of its two in-house labour unions the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) at the Company’s Headquarters.

The meeting, which marked the Company’s 4th consultative session with SSAEAC and 1st quarterly consultative session with NUEE, was convened to address critical employee concerns, strengthen labour–management relations, and explore practical strategies for improving workplace conditions, staff welfare, and job security across the organization.

Both Management and Union representatives participated actively, demonstrating a shared commitment to dialogue, transparency, and mutual respect. Management presented the Company’s vision for sustainable growth and operational stability, reaffirming its dedication to building a productive, motivated, and engaged workforce.

Key issues discussed included fair and timely remuneration, improved working conditions, staff training and development, workplace safety, and the need for open communication channels. Management also provided updates on ongoing reforms and initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and ensuring long-term business sustainability.

During the meeting, the Union leaders constructively presented the concerns of their members, with emphasis on staff welfare, pending entitlements, career progression, and overall employee well-being. They commended Management for creating an open platform for dialogue and encouraged continuous engagement to sustain industrial harmony.

Throughout the meeting, Management demonstrated a clear willingness to listen, engage, and adapt, proposing several initiatives aimed at fostering an inclusive workplace culture and strengthening trust between both parties. As the session concluded, both Management and Union leaders expressed optimism about the renewed spirit of collaboration, describing the meeting as a positive step toward deepening cooperation and reinforcing a stronger partnership.

 

Kaduna Electric Flags Off DISREP Meter Installation in Gusau

Kaduna Electric has commenced the installation of electricity meters under the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP) in Gusau, Zamfara State, to improve service delivery, enhance billing accuracy, and eliminate estimated billing.


The flag-off ceremony marked the start of a statewide metering rollout aimed at closing the existing metering gap and strengthening accountability in the electricity distribution system.

Mr. Abba Mai Barno, Head of the Metering Project, disclosed that a significant number of meters have been approved for installation across Zamfara State under DISREP. He explained that the programme, a Federal Government initiative supported by a $500 million World Bank facility, is designed to improve the financial sustainability and technical efficiency of electricity distribution companies nationwide.

Mr. Mai Barno highlighted that DISREP focuses on deploying smart meters, reducing Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses, improving revenue assurance, and promoting transparency. He assured that meters would be provided at no cost to eligible customers and confirmed that all devices had been tested and certified by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).

He further noted that the programme includes the deployment of a Data Aggregation Platform to enhance centralized monitoring and operational efficiency.

Mr. Muazu Aliyu, Zamfara Regional Manager of Kaduna Electric, described the flag-off as an important step toward improving electricity distribution services. He explained that the metering exercise would be implemented in phases, starting with Band A feeders, before extending to other parts of the state. He urged residents to cooperate with installation teams and advised customers to report any concerns or irregularities to the nearest Kaduna Electric office, noting that refusal of meter installation would be addressed in line with regulatory provisions.

Also speaking, Hon. Muzamil Muhammad Idris Kaura, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Electrification Agency, welcomed the initiative and commended Kaduna Electric and the Federal Government for extending the programme to the state. He described DISREP as timely and beneficial, noting that improved metering would support better power management and boost economic activities.

 

Regional Team Charged to Uphold Standards In DISREP

Mr. Muazu Aliyu, Regional Manager of Kaduna Electric’s Zamfara Office, identified teamwork and integrity as key drivers of the success of the DISREP metering project during a capacity-building training for Regional Staff and Service Centre Managers in Gusau recently.


He emphasized that collaboration among staff is essential for improving electricity efficiency, eliminating estimated billing, and promoting transparency. Every staff member, from supervisors to field installers, plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of the metering process and preventing malpractices such as meter bypassing and illegal connections.

Mr. Abba Mai Barno, Head of the DISREP Project, described the training as an interactive platform for participants to exchange ideas, discuss best practices, and address operational challenges. He noted that involving staff at every stage promotes transparency, ensures accurate billing, strengthens accountability, and improves public trust.

“When staff understand their responsibilities and act with integrity, the outcome goes beyond operational efficiency it builds confidence in the electricity distribution system,” Mr. Barno said.

 

Kaduna Electric Strengthens Partnership with Federal Fire Service

The Zamfara Regional Manager, Mr. Muazu Aliyu, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Fire Service (FFS) as part of proactive effort to prevent fire incidents, protect electricity infrastructure, and enhance safety and emergency response across the state.


Mr. Aliyu made this known during a courtesy visit to the Federal Fire Service Command in Gusau, he emphasized that the collaboration goes beyond emergency response to include knowledge sharing, joint planning, risk assessment, and proactive safety measures.

“Our collaboration is about learning from each other, sharing knowledge, and developing robust strategies to improve safety across the state,” Mr. Aliyu said, noting that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote safety, reduce operational risks, and deepen stakeholder engagement.

He encouraged the FFS to strengthen preparedness, enhance response coordination, and engage in joint safety training and capacity-building exercises to improve overall fire safety outcomes.

Malam Sagir Garba Gusau, Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Zamfara Command, expressed appreciation for the visit and affirmed the Service’s commitment to collaborating with Kaduna Electric. He stressed that sustained cooperation, joint public education, and risk assessment initiatives will significantly reduce hazards and protect lives and critical infrastructure.

 

Kaduna Electric Reaffirms Commitment to NERC Regulations

The Regional Manager of Kaduna Electric, Gusau, Mr. Muazu Aliyu, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to full compliance with the regulations of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), assuring customers of sustained efforts to enhance service delivery across its franchise area.


Mr. Aliyu made this known during a courtesy visit to the NERC Forum Office in Gusau, Zamfara State.

He emphasized Kaduna Electric’s efforts to improve customer service, strengthen network reliability, and address operational challenges within the region.

According to him, the visit was aimed at deepening collaboration with the Commission through constructive engagement and alignment of shared objectives to ensure that customers receive fair, reliable, and quality electricity services in line with NERC’s regulatory mandate.

The Regional Manager also highlighted ongoing progress under the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP), noting that the company remains fully compliant with regulatory directives, particularly in the area of metering.

In his response, the NERC Secretary, Mr. Aminu Dauda, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to improving service delivery and strengthening customer confidence within the electricity distribution sector. While acknowledging the operational and financial challenges faced by Distribution Companies (DisCos) nationwide, he stressed that such challenges must not undermine regulatory compliance, transparency, or customer satisfaction.

Mr. Dauda further reiterated that customer engagement, prompt resolution of complaints, and strict adherence to approved service standards remain critical priorities. He encouraged Kaduna Electric to sustain effective communication with customers and promptly implement corrective measures where service gaps are identified.
