Kaduna Electric, Police Strengthen Collaboration Against Rising Vandalism

To curb the rising wave of vandalism and mitigate its impact on the company's operations, the Chief Commercial Officer, Zanna Ahmad Ashimi, intensified efforts to safeguard Kaduna Electric's infrastructure. The menace, which continues to disrupt power supply and inflict significant financial losses on the company, has underscored the need for stronger collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to protect critical assets and ensure reliable service delivery to customers.

In furtherance of these efforts, a delegation led by the Chief Commercial Officer, Zanna Ahmad Ashimi, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Muhammad Rabi'u, to appreciate the Command for its continued support and seek further collaboration in tackling the growing menace.

Speaking during the visit, the Chief Commercial Officer expressed concern over the worsening trend of vandalism, disclosing that between June 1 and June 23, 2026, Kaduna Electric recorded 14 cases of vandalism. He noted that some perpetrators disguise themselves as staff members, claiming to be carrying out inspections, repairs, or supervision before vandalising transformers and other installations.

"We appreciate the support and commitment of the Kaduna State Police Command in protecting our assets, but the situation is becoming more alarming by the day. Between June 1 and June 23, we recorded 14 cases of vandalism, Kaduna Electric will not take this issue lightly. We will pursue every established case and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and face the full weight of the law because vandalism is a crime.

"We also warn that anyone found buying stolen electricity equipment or materials will equally face the consequences of such illegal acts. We look forward to deeper collaboration with the Police and other stakeholders to curb this menace and safeguard critical electricity infrastructure for the benefit of our customers and communities," Ashimi said.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police assured Kaduna Electric of the Command's unwavering support in tackling vandalism, noting that the crime affects not only the company but also the communities it serves. He emphasized the need for sustained public sensitisation to encourage communities to safeguard electricity infrastructure and promptly report suspicious activities.

The Commissioner also stressed the importance of improved power supply, noting that vandals often take advantage of darkness to perpetrate their acts. He further called for the sensitisation of scrap dealers and traders dealing in second-hand metals against purchasing stolen electrical materials.

In addition, the Commissioner directed Kaduna Electric to provide details and locations of transformers across the state, assuring the company that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) would be tasked with taking responsibility for infrastructure within their respective jurisdictions. He also urged Kaduna Electric's Area Managers to maintain close collaboration with police officers in their respective areas to facilitate swift responses to incidents and ensure the effective protection of critical assets.

The visit underscored the commitment of both Kaduna Electric and the Kaduna State Police Command to strengthening collaboration aimed at curbing vandalism and protecting electricity infrastructure for the benefit of the company and the host communities.
